MASON FILM FESTIVAL, founded in Spring 2013 by OSI Films and the Film and Video Studies (FAVS) Department, is George Mason University’s official film festival that features work from Film and Video Studies students and talented filmmakers from the student body.

OSI FILMS STUDENT SHOWCASE

  • Thursday May 1
  • 7:00pm to 10:00pm
  • A showcase of short fiction and documentary films, music videos, and web video content created by any member of the Mason student body
  • The Lego Movie will screen at 9:30pm

FAVS FICTION FILM DIRECTION SHOWCASE

  • Friday May 2
  • Block One:  3:00pm to 5:00pm
  • Block Two:  5:15pm to 7:15pm
  • A showcase of short fiction films directed by students in the FAVS Fiction Film Directing class and starring students from the THR Acting for Film class.

FAVS SENIOR THESIS FILM SHOWCASE

  • Saturday May 3
  • Block One:  2:00pm to 4:00pm
  • Block Two:  4:15pm to 6:15pm
  • A showcase of short fiction and documentary films created by the graduating class of Film and Video Studies seniors as their final thesis project.

FESTIVAL BANQUET

  • Saturday May 3
  • 6:30pm
  • Location: JC Bistro
  • Celebrate the completion of the 2nd Annual Mason Film Festival with food, drinks, and networking.
  • Jury awards for best films with be given at the banquet.

Guidelines for Submission

TURNING IN SUBMISSIONS:

  • Every film must be submitted in DVD Format.
  • All DVD submissions must be accompanied by the online submission form (survey).
  • Drop off DVD submissions at the Office of Student Involvement in The HUB 2nd Floor.

  • ACCOMPANYING DVD SUBMISSIONS ARE DUE BY MONDAY APRIL 28

DISCLAIMER:

  • Please note that because of the volume of submissions, the selection process will be competitive and your entry may or may not be chosen to be screened at the showcase.

CATEGORIES:

  • WEB VIDEO CONTENT  —  Includes home videos, promotional/commercial, creative content or webisodes. 5 minutes max.
  • SHORT FILM: FICTION  —  A short live action film that visually and creatively tells an original or adapted story. 13 minutes max, including credits.
  • SHORT FILM: DOCUMENTARY  —  A short nonfiction film dealing creatively with cultural, historical, social or other subjects. 13 minutes max, including credits.
  • MUSIC VIDEO  —  May showcase original content or a visual interpretation of existing music. 5 minutes max.
